On Thursday, Nov. 3, starting at 7 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a special presentation by Mike McGrath entitled “Eastern Field Sport Traditions: History of trapping, hunting, hounds and angling.” Come and here discussions celebrating the fall and field sports. On Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10 am the Oneida County Historical Society will host a special presentation by Dr. Juan Antonio Thomas on the Spanish of Utica. Thomas, a professor of Spanish at Utica College, will present on his current research project pertaining to the Spanish residents of Utica, NY, the event is co-sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Latino Association. On Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. the Oneida County Historical Society will host a special presentation by Wade Lallier on the life of John B. Jervis. Jervis was one of the most important civil engineers of the antebellum era, most noted for designing and running the first steam locomotive in American and building the Croton Aqueduct, the first modern water supply for New York City. On Sunday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a New York State Designer Blacksmiths meeting. As part of the display the Museum will host blacksmith demonstrations in the historic blacksmith shop. On Monday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. the Fabius Historical Society will host a special presentation by the Onondaga Historical Association entitled “the Diaries of Adam and Eve” at the Fabius Community Center. On Tuesday, Nov. 8th from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the Town of Madison Historical Society will host their annual Election Day Chicken and Biscuits Dinner. Come and enjoy Chef Ed Jeffers chicken and biscuits served with mashed potatoes, squash and dessert all for only $10, children’s portions only $7. On Wednesday,Nov. 9th at 12 p.m. Dr. Pamela L. Poulin will portray Amelia Jenks Bloomer at the Cortland County Historical Society. Bloomer was the first woman to own, publish, and edit her own newspaper, starting in Seneca Falls 5 months after the first Women’s Rights Convention there, as well as being a “dress reform” advocate. On Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. the Oneida County Historical Society will host a special presentation by Paul Boehlert entitled Above and Beyond: Stories of Uncommon Valor. In honor of Veteran’s Day Boehlert will tell the stories of men and women who served our nation with special emphasis on soldiers, sailors and airmen from Oneida County and the Mohawk Valley. On Sunday, Nov. 13, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. the Madison County Historical Society will sponsor “A Victorian Christmas…with a little bit of Dickens” at St. Joseph’s Church in Oneida. Come experience a true Victorian Christmas as Mary Jeanne Bialas brings the history of Christmas traditions to life, offering a peak into the characters of Charles Dickens and the Victorian Holiday spirit. On Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. the Town of Onondaga Historical Society welcomes Ed Riley, owner and renovator of the Hotel Syracuse to the Onondaga Town Hall, 5020 Ball Road. Riley will discuss the renovation process, history of the hotel and how a famous mural entitled “forefathers” was uncovered and restored. There is no charge for this event. On Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a special presentation by Derrick Pratt entitled “The Center of it all: Early Professional Baseball in Upstate NY.” Pratt will take attendees on a tour of early pro baseball with an emphasis on teams and players from upstate NY. On Friday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. the Morrisville Public Library will host the presentation “From Bingley to Busti.” Come and learn the story of a Madison County Mill which existed for close to 160 years before being torn down. Here how remnants from the mill are now part of a thriving mill in western New York, and the miller’s home is a residence in another town. There is no charge for this event. On Saturday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Seneca Falls Historical Society will host an Elizabeth Cady Stanton Luncheon at Gould Hotel. Guest Speaker Dr. Pamela L. Poulin will portray friend of Stanton, and Seneca Falls resident, Amelia Jenks Bloomer. Bloomer was the first woman to own, publish, and edit her own newspaper, starting in Seneca Falls 5 months after the first Women’s Rights Convention there, as well as being a “dress reform” advocate. This program will give a pictorial history of the construction of Hinckley Dam and the community it displaced. There is no charge for this event although donations are encouraged. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a basket workshop. Linda Scherz Allen of Adirondack Basketry will lead the class on how to make a small jelly basket. Tickets are $45 and include preparation, all necessary materials and the class fee. From Monday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. (Thursday and Friday nights 7 to 9 p.m. as well) the Lorenzo State Historic Site will host “Christmas at Lorenzo: Dreaming of a White Christmas.” Inspired by the Irving Berlin song, this year’s holiday celebration will play upon the winter imagery of crystalized trees, a mangle of snow, frozen lakes and crisp winter skies. This annual event will feature holiday refreshments, live music, sleigh rides (on the weekend weather permitting), ornamental crafts and holiday treats. On Sunday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Madison County Historical Society will host their annual Victorian Christmas Open House. Come and enjoy the holiday season by viewing Cottage Lawn festively decorated by area garden clubs and floral shops. Starting at 1 p.m., a special holiday concert featuring the Oneida Chorale Ensemble, Oneida High School Select Choir the Whitelaw Ringers of Praise Ensemble and more sing your favorite holiday classics.
