Herkimer College has announced its Green & Gold Athletes for the month of October. They are freshman cross country runner Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) and sophomore men’s soccer forward Dajhal Kelly (Saint Kitts, Caribbean Sea).
Bernier, has competed against some of the top NJCAA and NCAA schools in the state. In eight races, Bernier has earned seven top five finishes, four of which she finished in first, including the Mountain Valley Conference Championship and the Region III Championship. Bernier has been honored twice as Region III Player of the Week and also earned a placement on the All-Region team. Head coach Steve
Head coach Steve Sydoriw said “Chyanna is on the right track toward earning the cross country team their first national championship.” Bernier is a Criminal Justice major and a graduate of Central Valley Academy in Ilion. The championship meet will be hosted by Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m.
Dajhal Kelly, a General Studies major, has scored 18 goals so far this season with eight made in October. He has proven to be a key player in the post-season, as he helped the Generals win the Region III championship game versus Erie Community College. Kelly will compete with his team in the national championship tournament quarterfinals at Wehrum Stadium on Thursday, November 10 at 11 a.m. versus the #7 Bristol Bayhawks.
