The Mohawk Valley Health System’s National Diabetes Prevention Program, part of the Central New York Diabetes Education Program, has been awarded full recognition from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program.

“Research shows that more than 50 percent of people with insulin resistance may be able to prevent a diagnosis of diabetes as a result of the National Diabetes Prevention Program. We are very proud to be the first program in Oneida County to achieve this status,” said Caroline Jacobus, MS, RN, CDE, CFCN, director of CNY Diabetes.

“According to the CDC registry, the closest recognized programs outside our region reside in Albany, Ithaca and Geneva.”

CDC recognition provides the quality assurance measures by which an organization demonstrates its ability to effectively deliver this lifestyle change program. The DPRP provides equitable standards and operating guidelines that all providers follow in order to be fully recognized by the CDC.

Registration is now open for a new series of classes beginning in February 2017. For more information on the nationally recognized program, please visit www.mvhealthsystem.org/diabetes, call 315-624-5620 or e-mail cjacobus@mvhealthsystem.org.
