Share a caringMore than 33 years ago, Harold Nye inspired his employees and other in the community to brighten the holidays for families in need. This was the beginning of what eventually became Share a Caring Christmas. Today this annual event has become a tradition that families and our local community look forward to each and every year.

Once again, the NYE Automotive Group will be holding its annual Share a Caring Christmas.  This year the annual event will be held a week earlier, Dec. 3, and new in 2016 is not only the date change but a coat drive, Share the Warmth, where individuals can donate unwanted coats and winter items to help keep our community warm.

Those wishing to donate to Share the Warmth may drop off donations at any NYE Auto location. We will also have some new schools performing as well as partnership with BIG FROG 104 and Lite 98.7. Big Frog and Lite 98.7 will be broadcasting live from the event as well.  The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NYE’s Ford location.

BIG FROG 104 will broadcast the festivities live throughout the event, and a full line-up of musical entertainment has been scheduled, including musical selections performed by area schools as well as long time supporter Fritz’s Polka Band. Light refreshments will be served, and guests can expect a visit from Santa and maybe even Mrs. Claus.

The event truly reflects the spirit of giving. Local residents, businesses and schools all collect new and gently used toys for area children whom might not otherwise find much under their trees on Christmas morning.  In 2015 we were able to help a record number of families with a little extra Christmas cheer.   This year we are hoping to exceed last year’s goal and help even more families with a little something extra under the tree.

Immediately following the December 3rd  event, the gifts will be taken by local volunteers to the Karing Kitchen where they will be cleaned and distributed to local families. Those wishing to donate after the event can do so until Dec. 16.

All are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring any new or gently used unwrapped toy. Anyone interested in donating toys prior to the event may do so by bringing them to NYE Ford any time during regular business hours now through December 3rd. NYE Automotive is located at 1441 Genesee St. in Oneida and open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Any local group or organization who wish to help the effort by collecting toys are encouraged to do so, and anyone wishing to volunteer to help at the event should contact Terri Wimmer at 363-1000 x4256 or Kelly Karram at 725-8420.
