The “Open Evening Book Club” will hold its next meeting in the Story Garden Room on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. The group will discuss The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey (2005).
Candice Millard’s stunning debut tells the true story of Theodore Roosevelt’s exploration of the River of Doubt—a tributary of the Amazon that winds through one of the most dangerous jungles in the world.
Together with his son Kermit, the Brazilian explorer Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon, and a band of comrades, Roosevelt sets out to map the uncharted landscape.
Along the way, the men endure Indian attacks, piranhas, deadly rapids, starvation, disease, lost supplies, and murder within their own ranks.
