Herkimer College has announced its Green & Gold Athletes of the Month for November. They are cross country runner Chyanna Bernier (Ilion) and men’s basketball forward Tyquan Scott (Long Beach).
Chyanna Bernier, a freshman Criminal Justice major from Central Valley Academy in Ilion, has participated in nine races and competed against some of the top NJCAA and NCAA schools in the state.
She has earned eight top five finishes, including the Mountain Valley Conference Championship and the Region III Championship and two other first place finishes. Bernier represented well at the National Championship meet, earning second place overall with a time of
Bernier represented well at the National Championship meet, earning second place overall with a time of 20:12 at a 6:30 pace. Bernier has been honored twice as Region III Player of the Week and twice as Herkimer’s Green & Gold Athlete of the Month. She has also earned a placement on the All-Region team and All-American team. Bernier was honored as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s “Northeast Region Women’s Athlete of the Year.” Head Coach Steve Sydoriw said, “As a freshman, I don’t think you could ask for a better first year.”
Bernier recently joined the Generals’ swimming and diving team. Swimming and diving head coach Vicki Brown said, “She’s extremely dedicated and has a tremendous work ethic which is evident when you watch her practice each day. Swimming is not her primary sport; however, with her dedication, work ethic and commitment, there is incredible potential that I can’t wait to see unfold!”
Tyquan Scott, a senior Sports & Recreation Management major from Long Beach, has played in 10 games, earned 205 points, and is fifth in the nation averaging at 20.5 points per game, 14 assists and 58 rebounds. Scott has become a valuable presence for the team both on and off the court. His work ethic and leadership are critical to this team’s excellence. Head men’s basketball coach Matt Lee states, “Tyquan has made it a habit of working hard. This will lead him and the team to a successful season.”
