wayne-danielsThis winter, the Cazenovia Public Library Art Gallery presents the stunning work of local painter Wayne Daniels. The exhibition is on display through the end of January.

Wayne Daniels is a contemporary realist painter who has spent most of his life in the Cazenovia area. Daniels demonstrated a talent for drawing and painting at an early age and received several Scholastic Art Awards throughout his school years. He received a B.A. in art from Buffalo State University in 1984 and began showing his work at Cazenovia’s Goodsight Gallery in 1997.

Daniels soon became one of the gallery’s most highly sought after artists. He has since been represented in Cazenovia’s Beehive Gallery, Gallery of CNY, and Maresella Gallery. The accomplished painter is a four-time finalist in the Artist’s Magazine’s Annual Art Competition.

Daniels cites the Dutch Masters of the seventeenth century and the American realist painters of the nineteenth and twentieth century as inspiration. In many of his paintings, Daniels attempts to maximize depth and luminosity by building up layers of transparent glazed oil paint. Rather than mixed on a pallet, colors are achieved through the layering of different transparent paints. Only in the final stages does he add details and highlights with thicker opaque paint.

The time- and labor-intensive nature of this process prevents outdoor on-site work; therefore, Daniels completes these remarkable pieces in a studio using his own photographs. Visit facebook.com/waynedanielsfineart or wayne-daniels.artistwebsites.com for images and additional information.

The current Gallery exhibition represents over twenty years of Daniels’ work. The fifteen paintings are primarily personal works borrowed from family members, friends, and his personal collection. While Daniels is best known for his landscape paintings in oil, the exhibition also features portrait and figurative work in watercolor and acrylic.
