This past weekend, Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I-New Hartford) attended a tree tapping ceremony at Tibbitts Maple to kick off Maple Weekend.
Miller drilled a ceremonial hole in a maple tree to start collecting tree sap and presented a citation to Tibbitts Maple for its dedication in educating the public about pure New York State maple syrup.
“I enjoy getting to visit with small business owners who contribute to our local economy,” said Miller. “Tibbitts Maple is a local staple and contributes to a large number of maple syrup sales New York state is responsible for. I’m very happy to have been part of this year’s event as it’s a fun and educational time for our residents, and I am a strong supporter of small businesses and their efforts to grow our economy.”
Maple Weekend Open House is a statewide event that takes place the weekends of March 18-19 and 25-26. Sugar makers from across the state invite the public to their sugarhouses to experience how pure New York maple syrup is made.
