Event Registration is in Full Swing
With less than a month left until the 12th annual Canal Clean Sweep, we’re well on our way to another great showing at the annual spring cleaning for New York’s Canal and Canalway Trail system. Thanks to our great local organizers, there are wonderful events scheduled across the Canal Corridor (check out the Event Finder Map for more details).
But this is no ordinary year for Clean Sweep. In addition to celebrating Earth Day and the 193rd consecutive navigation season on the New York State Canal System, this year’s Clean Sweep will kelp kick off a year of celebration for the Erie Canal Bicentennial!
The Canalway Trail Needs You
Canal Clean Sweep is looking to live up to its reputation as the largest Earth Day celebration in New York State by once again bringing thousands of volunteers out to the parks, trails, and waterways along the 524-mile NYS Canal System. If you haven’t registered a clean up yet, there’s still time. So we encourage you to pick a spot and get your event scheduled today!
Most of this year’s events will take place during Earth Day Weekend, beginning on Friday, April 21, but feel free to pick another date if it works better for your schedule.
We Help Make Your Event a Success
PTNY provides up-to-date event information, including posting all event details to the Event Finder Map, and assisting potential volunteers in finding a convenient event.
We’ll also promote Clean Sweep with statewide press releases, as well as providing you with a template you can tailor and send to local media.
Clean Sweep groups will receive free Canal Clean Sweep T-shirts, trash bags, and disposal of collected and bagged trash.
Volunteer Registration Now Open
For those of you who would like to contribute, but can’t organize an event, volunteering at an existing event is a great option.
All scheduled events are posted to theEvent Finder Map. If organizers are allowing public participation, we’ve included the event as an option on our volunteer registration system. So, just find an event near you on the map, then select it from the dropdown list on the Volunteer Registration Form. Organizers, we’ll send you email notification when anyone registers for your event.
Register your event or volunteer for an existing event at the Canal Clean Sweep page.
If you have any questions or would like further information on coordinating an event in your community, please contact James Meerdink at canalsweep@ptny.org or (518) 434-1583.
