Store closed March 30, 2017

The Madison County Reuse Store, managed for the past five-and-a-half years by the Rescue Mission of Syracuse will close temporarily March 31, 2017.

Due to lack of sufficient revenue, the Rescue Mission has made the decision to no longer manage the store, but thanks to a grant from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the Department of Solid Waste has the opportunity to expand the store, increasing its size by 3,000 square feet.

The addition will remedy the space shortage by providing heated, dry space to display reusable construction materials and large furniture for purchase. The newly remodeled store will have a new look and feel, focusing on low-cost construction materials, making building and remodeling projects more affordable.

As in the past, donations of items in good condition will be welcomed. The additional space will double the display area allowing for increased sales and increased donations of construction materials and large items such as furniture.

It is expected that construction will begin as warm weather approaches, and it is hoped that the Reuse Store will reopen in the fall of 2017. Director James A. Zecca and his staff are reaching out to entities that might be interested in managing the newly remodeled Reuse Store.

“We are hopeful that the search for a new sponsor will provide a solution that is satisfactory to all,” said Zecca.
