The First Presbyterian Church in Cazenovia will celebrate a Palm Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. April 9.
Vincent Guarneiri, director of music, has planned a significant service of music. The Caz Pres Bell Ringers will start the service with “ When the Saints Go Marching” in by Tammy Waldrop. The Senior Choir will sing the anthem “Prepare the Way of the Lord” by Anna Laura Page.
This piece is based on the scripture passage found in Luke 9:37-38. The organ postlude will be “Praeludium in E Minor by Nicholas Bruhns (1665-1697). Bruhns was a predecessor of Bach and one of the most prominent organists and composers of his generation. Bruhns was very influential of later Baroque works.
The Reverend Tom Oak will deliver the message “ Who Is This?” with scripture from Matthew 21:1-11.
The children from the Sunday School will distribute Palms that have been made into crosses.
Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, is the Sunday before Easter. Palm Sunday remembers Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem near the end his public ministry.
When Jesus entered the city with his entourage, people laid palm branches in the road before him and greeted him as the long awaited Messiah. They shouted “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.”
After the Palm Sunday service there will be a brunch at 11:30 a.m. in the church’s Meeting House. The event is free and open to anyone wanting good food and good fellowship.
