Colgate VP on Monday Panel About Increasing Diversity in College Sports Leadership
Colgate Vice President and Director of Athletics Victoria M. Chun ’91, MA’94 is among a handful of collegiate officials speaking to the Knight Commission Monday in Washington.
The event takes place at the National Press Club from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The Knight Commission, which promotes reforms to emphasize the educational mission of college athletics, will hear from Chun and fellow NCAA and Division I representatives about efforts to increase diversity in college sports leadership.
Chun is one of 40 members serving on the NCAA Division I Council, and she was elected as the Vice Chair for the Division I Football Oversight committee. Chun also was appointed to the newly created Division I Football Competition committee. She also is in the middle of a three-year term as President of Women Leaders in College Sports.
Joining Chun in her 10:45 a.m. session are Bernard Franklin, NCAA executive vice president; Richard Lapchick, director of The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport; Scottie Montgomery, East Carolina head football coach; and Stan Wilcox, Florida State athletics director.
Monday’s earlier session involves the future of college football with a focus on finances and player benefits and protections.
The Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics is co-chaired by Arne Duncan, former U.S. Secretary of Education; and Carol Cartwright, President Emeritus, Kent State University and Bowling Green State University. Cartwright and Duncan are taking questions in a news conference immediately following the second session.
