Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced that members of his administration and SUNY leaders will be holding information sessions about the Excelsior Scholarship Program.

H. Carl McCall, chairman of the SUNY Board of Trustees, will be visiting SUNY Canton at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, in SUNY Canton’s Richard W. Miller Campus Center Room 218 for one of the sessions. The event is free and open to the public. Students, parents and faculty are all encouraged to attend to learn about the scholarship.

Under the Excelsior Scholarship, nearly 80 percent, or 940,000 middle-class families and individuals making up to $125,000 per year, would qualify to attend college tuition-free at all CUNY and SUNY two- and four-year colleges in New York State.

“Chairman McCall will be able to add his insight and increase our ability to relay accurate information about this promising new program,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “Students and their families will have an added chance to learn about the Excelsior Scholarship.”

SUNY Canton has previously held information sessions coupled with its Admissions and Financial Aid offices.
