Stone Quarry Hill Art Park’s Surface: Emerging Artists of 2017 opens

Gallery show displays work from 23 emerging artists

Caitlin Clonan can vaguely remember attending summer art camps at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, but they must have had an impact. Today Clonan, a senior at Cazenovia High School, is one of the artists featured in the Art Park’s current gallery exhibition:

Surface: Emerging Artists of 2017. Her piece, Colorful Face, explores the use of color to create facial contours. Clonan will attend SUNY Fredonia in the fall to study animation and illustration. In addition to Clonan’s piece, the exhibition features 3D sculpture and sound installations and includes the work of artists of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the country as well right here in the Central New York Region.

Surface opened to a crowd of over 70 guests on Friday, May 5. The exhibition runs through May 31. Stephen Brucker, the Art Park’s Visitor Services and Site Promotion Coordinator, curated and prepared the show—“we were so impressed by the number and quality of submissions. Many of the artists attended the opening and further built their networks. It was so great to see artists interacting with each other and with the public. They should be very proud of their work. We hope this exhibition inspires them to continue creating.”

Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment. The Art Park opens its national juried exhibition In-Habit: Practice and Place in July, the call for entries is open through May 31.
