Griffo, Brindisi announce $11 million in state funding will improve access to health care

Rome Memorial Hospital to Receive Nearly $8 Million and Eastern Star Home, Nearly $3 Million From State Program Designed To improve Patient Care

State Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi have announced Rome Memorial Hospital will receive just under $8 million, and the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany just under $3 million from a state program designed to improve patient care.

The two legislators say the funding comes from the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, designed to improve the quality of inpatient, primary care, substance abuse treatment, and long-term care facilities in New York.

Senator Griffo said: “The Rome Memorial Hospital is a critical asset in our community and I am pleased to have advocated on their behalf to receive this significant financial support, so it is great news that the hospital has been awarded this funding to help improve and enhance their operations. “This funding will help ensure that Rome Memorial operates to the best of its ability, so that the people of Rome and the surrounding area can receive the exceptional healthcare services they deserve. I am also glad that Eastern Star Home will be able to benefit from this grant program as well, so that the facility can continue to provide the senior services that are important to our community.”

Assemblyman Brindisi said: “This program is significantly upgrading local health care facilities, so that patients do not have to travel a long distance to have access to quality health care.  I have long been in support of programs that allow local providers to invest in the equipment and infrastructure they need to provide quality programs and services to their patients.  I am pleased that this program will be funding primary care, substance abuse and mental health treatment services operated by Rome Hospital, which are greatly needed in the Mohawk Valley region.  This program also will significantly add to programs and services at the Eastern Star Home, which has been providing long-term care in our area for generations.”

The following awards were announced under the program:

  • Rome Memorial Hospital–$7,993,000 to acquire an existing medical office complex to develop an outpatient medical village with primary care, substance abuse, and behavioral health services.
  • Eastern Star Home of the State of New York–$2,997,000 to transform and restructure the facility by decertifying skilled nursing beds, and replacing them with assisted living beds, a memory care unit, and enriched housing beds.
