Oneida based state police charged a Clinton man with misdemeanor marijuana possession following a traffic stop for speeding Sunday morning.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on July 23, Trooper Mackenzie Werenczak stopped a 2014 Ford Focus for traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone on State Route 365 in the Town of Verona. While speaking with the driver, Gregory D. Beal, age 20, of Heloon Drive, Clinton, the trooper observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

A search revealed a bag containing approximately 62 grams of marijuana along with scales and other paraphernalia. Beal was processed at the Oneida state police barracks and charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana 4th degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and speeding. Beal was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Verona Court.
