State police charged Brittany M. Ritzel, 30, of Maple Street, Utica, with driving while intoxicated following a stop at a sobriety checkpoint in Utica Thursday evening.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Aug. 17, Trooper Terry Horton was participating in a sobriety checkpoint on Oriskany Street in Utica when he stopped a 2016 Volkswagen travelling through the checkpoint and operated by Ritzel. While speaking with Ritzel, he noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath, and sobriety tests indicated she was intoxicated.

Ritzel was taken into custody for DWI and transported to the Marcy state police barracks for processing.  A breath test determined that Ritzel’s blood alcohol content was .11 percent. She was issued tickets for DWI and driving with a BAC of .08 percent or greater. She is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court Aug. 28, 2017.
