Doll and Sotomayor Honored, Raiders Predicted Fourth
Colgate women’s soccer senior Eliza Doll and sophomore Abby Sotomayor have been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. The Raiders, who open the 2017 season Sunday at home against LSU, were projected to finish fourth in the 10-team league.
Doll enters her senior season as the defending Patriot League Midfielder of the Year. She collected NSCAA second team All-Region, ECAC All-Star, first team All-Patriot League and Academic All-League nods a season ago. A three-year starter, Doll has anchored the Colgate midfield throughout her career and finished last season with eight points behind two goals and four assists.
Sotomayor is coming off a standout rookie campaign that culminated in being named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and first team All-Patriot League. She wrapped up the 2016 season with a team-best 19 points behind nine goals and one assist. Four of her goals were game-winners, while five goals came during league play. Sotomayor was named the team MVP at the conclusion of the season and was also named the Colgate Athletics Female Rookie of the Year.
The Raiders garnered 119 points to place fourth in the league’s preseason poll. Colgate finished the 2016 campaign with an 8-8-3 overall record that included a 5-4-0 mark in league play. Boston University was predicted to finish atop the league after garnering 156 points and 12 first-place votes. Bucknell (152 points, 8 first-place votes) and Navy (121) were projected second and third. The top six teams in the Patriot League standings at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.
The poll and preseason All-League teams were voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors who could not vote for their own teams or student-athletes.
Colgate opens the 2017 campaign at home Sunday when the Raiders welcome LSU to Beyer-Small ’76 Field at 7 p.m. Colgate will host Community Day during the season-opener, with free admission, food trucks, inflatables and free ice cream.
