Syracuse Hancock International Airport invited passengers to join in celebrating National Aviation Day Aug. 17 through 19.
The holiday, that celebrates the development of aviation, was established in 1939 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. President Roosevelt issued a presidential proclamation which designated the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday to be National Aviation Day.
Ticketed passengers in the terminal during those days were given the opportunity to spin a wheel to win a number of prizes, grab an aviation-themed treat or get their pictures taken at the airport’s new selfie spot.
“It is important for us to stop and remember how important aviation has been in shaping the history and trajectory of the United States, and that is what we intend to do by celebrating National Aviation Day,” said Christina Callahan, executive director.
