September brings back to school for many families and hour changes at the library. The library also has some interesting events planned for the month.

Nothing says end of summer like the taste of fresh tomatoes from the vine. Did you know there are more than 350 different varieties of tomatoes all with their own unique flavor? Are your tomatoes the plumpest, juiciest, sweetest? Share some of your favorites from this year’s garden with us. Join us on Friday, Sept. 8, near the main entrance of the library for our second annual Tomato Tasting! Bring in four or five of your best tomatoes for tasting. Include your name and the tomato variety when you drop your tomatoes off the day prior to the tasting.

On Sept. 4, the Canastota Library will be closed for Labor Day; however, when the library reopens on Sept 5, the hours will be as follows: Monday through Thursday 9am – 8:30pm; Friday 9am – 5pm; Saturday 10am – 4pm.

Randy Woodcock will be offering four sessions of tai chi this fall at the library. The sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays on September 12, 19, 26 and October 3. They will begin at 7pm and last about an hour. Participants should wear comfortable clothing. Tai Chi offers many benefits to those who practice it regularly including better mood, greater aerobic capacity and more energy. While the sessions are free to the public, there are a limited number of available slots due to

space requirements. Please contact the library to sign up for tai chi.

Every Tuesday afternoon at 5pm, the Canastota Public Library offers a free showing of a newly released or popular movie. All movies are listed on our webpage and advertised on our Facebook page.

There is no cost to attend.

Medicare 101 is being offered at the library once a month through December by Medicare Heath Professional Jeanine Fadeley, MHA. Fadeley will help participants understand the intricacies of

Medicare in these educational sessions. The first session will be held Friday, Sept. 22, from 2 until 4 pm. Reservations can be made by calling (315) 395-4769. Walk-ins are welcome but space is limited.
