Free Open House at Schweinfurth’s Clay Studio during October First Friday, With a Special Fall Discount

Have you ever wanted to throw a pot on the wheel? Visit the Schweinfurth Art Center during its Clay Studio Open House on October 6 from 5-8pm for free instruction and an opportunity to try the wheel. The event is part of Auburn’s First Friday offerings. Visitors will enjoy free admission to fall exhibits, a chance to experiment with clay and the potter’s wheel, and light refreshments.

Participants will receive a special fall discount on future studio use.

No experience is necessary to attend, and the open house is free and open to the public. Instruction for wheel throwing (ages 10+) and hand building projects for younger children will be provided by award-winning ceramic artist and teacher John Smolenski. Watch John demonstrate basic techniques and then try throwing one yourself.

On view through Oct. in the galleries at the Schweinfurth are exhibits featuring art inspired by geology and resource management issues. The exhibits include photographs by Jonathon Wells, paintings of the Finger Lakes by Lauren Rosenthal, and sculptures and works on paper by Geoffrey Booras and Laura Moriarty. On exhibit in Gallery Julius are paintings by Ellen Haffar of Pompey.
