On Sept. 28, 2017, State Police investigators with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in North Syracuse charged Kenneth E. Bennett, 58, and Michelle E. Beck, 47, both from 144M Lafayette Ave., Canastota, with second-degree grand larceny, a class C felony.
The charges follow an investigation that determined Bennett and Beck extorted more than $100,000 from an elderly East Syracuse man over the last year. The two were arraigned in DeWitt Town Court Sept. 28 and remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center.
Beck is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secure bond; Bennett is being held without bail.
Bennett and Beck are to appear in East Syracuse Village Court Oct. 3, 2017, at 2:30 p.m.
