Assemblyman Al Stirpe issued the following statement on the decision to lift mandate for birth control.

“The Trump administration’s decision to roll back requirements that employers include birth control coverage in their health insurance plans is a threat to women’s health and well-being. Research clearly shows that when women can control their reproductive health decisions, families and the economy reap benefits and move forward. Allowing employers to drop contraceptive coverage turns back the clock and will put this essential health care service out of reach for too many women.

“I helped pass the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act (A.1378) in the Assembly and we must act to ensure it becomes law. This measure ensures that insurers in New York provide coverage for contraception and contraceptive services prescribed by a healthcare provider. I’ll keep working to break down all barriers to women’s access to critical health care services.”
