The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation recently presented a gift of $10,000 to the American Red Cross to support the work of the Eastern New York Region as a “Ready 365” partner. Ready 365 partners empower the Red Cross to carry out its mission at a local level each and every day of the year. In addition to this gift, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation also donated $75,000 to the American Red Cross this fall to help people affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The $10,000 gift from Dominion Energy will specifically support Red Cross Home Fire Relief in Eastern New York. This gift enables the Red Cross to provide critical recovery services to families impacted by home fires, as well as lifesaving tools and information to support community fire prevention efforts.

“We are excited to once again support the Red Cross throughout upstate New York,” said Stan J. Ossowski, Manager, Gas Transmission Operations, Dominion Energy. “The installation of smoke alarms and distribution of safety information as part of the Home Fire Relief Program are two small steps to help the Red Cross create safer communities.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for this generous gift,” said Derek Dobson, Regional Philanthropy Officer, American Red Cross Eastern New York Region. “Dominion Energy’s commitment to the Red Cross as a Ready 365 partner will allow us to provide critical services in our community year-round – whenever and wherever we are needed most.”

The Red Cross responds to nearly 500 disasters in the 24-county Eastern New York Region each year. The vast majority of these disasters are home fires. In the 2016-2017 fiscal year, Red Cross workers provided shelter, food and comfort to 815 local families displaced by disasters big and small. During the same time period, volunteers and partners installed more than 5,000 free smoke alarms across the region to help prevent home fire tragedies.

All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge, thanks to the generosity of donors like the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. To learn more, visit redcross.org/eny.
