Raiders Host Canisius Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Cotterell Court

The Colgate men’s basketball team will host Canisius in an exhibition game in support of hurricane relief and the One America Appeal on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Cotterell Court. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will go to the One America Appeal. The appeal was originally launched in September by all five living American Presidents to encourage their fellow citizens and friends around the world to support the staggering recovering needs from Hurricane Harvey. The appeal has since expanded to aid in Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria recovery efforts as well. As of October 21, the organization has raised $31 million in donations from over 80,000 givers.

“We are fortunate to lead the lives we do, and it is important for us to give back in any way we can,” said head coach Matt Langel. “This country has seen mass amounts of devastation due to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria over the past few months. It’s very important that we help and support our fellow citizens as they recover and rebuild.”

Tickets are available for purchase through the Colgate Ticket Office or online at GoColgateRaiders.com/Tickets. Tickets will cost $5 for adults and $3 for children and senior citizens (62 and older), with all proceeds being donated to the One America Appeal. Fans can purchase tickets online HERE.

All donations will go to help victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Irma in Florida, and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Texas, monies will go to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund focusing on the greater Houston region, and the Rebuild Texas Fund assisting communities across the state. In Florida, monies will go to the Florida Disaster Fund, which is the state’s official private fund to assist the state’s communities as they respond to and recover from destructive storms. In the Caribbean, donations will be distributed to Unidos Por Puerto Rico launched by the office of First Lady Beatriz Rosselló together with private sector coalition; and the Fund for the Virgin Islands, which was established 25 years ago by the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands for relief efforts.

Colgate returns an experienced group for the 2017-18 season as the Raiders welcome back 13 letterwinners and all five starters from a season ago. Colgate returns 93 percent of point production from last season, in addition to 90 percent of minutes played. Canisius is coming off a 2016-17 campaign that saw the Golden Griffins finish 18-16 overall and make a CIT appearance.

Tipoff from Cotterell Court is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
