Participants in this Humanities New York reading and discussion program will meet for the third session, which focuses on Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Pre-registration is required.

The OPL Players Present ‘The Game of Life’

Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

At the Oneida Community Mansion House, 170 Kenwood Ave. in Oneida, the OPL Players will present a readers theater production of “The Game of Life: The Great Peterboro Baseball Story,” directed by Virginia Drake with Ken Drake and written by Tom Murray. The play, set in Peterboro in August 1868 and based on the first recorded baseball game played by girls, features Ken Drake as Gerrit Smith, Virginia Drake as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sarah Davies Hasegawa as Mrs. Smith, Kathy Brodeur as the Village Busybody and Tom Lemery as the Keeper of the Madison County Home for Destitute Children. There is an admission fee for the Mansion House: $5 per adult, $3 per student, but free for O.C. members and children under 12 years of age.

Monday at 6:00 p.m.

Friends of the Oneida Public Library will hold its fall meeting at Oneida Public Library. New members are always welcome.

Film Showing: Grey Matters

Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Ramona Persaud’s documentary film, “Grey Matters: Teaching the Way the Brain Learns,” explores the links between classroom learning and modern cognitive theory by revealing the experiences of three public school teachers who adapted the new science to their classes. Persaud will be on hand for the discussion that follows.

As an adjunct to her popular program last winter, Pushing the Limits Book Discussions, Prof. Jen Herzog will lead a lively discussion on the medical and ethical questions raised in Rebecca Skloot’s nonfiction award-winner “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” Copies of the book are available at the Oneida Library desk.

Tom Henry on America’s Entry into the Great War

Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

During the centenary of U.S. fighting in World War I, popular historian Tom Henry returns to Oneida Library to lecture on why America declared war on Germany and Austria, how the American Expeditionary Force affected the war’s outcome and what upheaval President Wilson’s policies caused at home.

Family Super Saturday: Animals Go to War

Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Both children and their parents will be fascinated by true stories of animals that went to the front in France during World War I and by a live show-and-tell with a horse and a donkey that will be conducted by 4-H Club members.

A Soldier’s Life after Iraq

Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

U.S. Army Major John Ready (ret.), himself a veteran of the Iraq conflict, will speak to the problems faced by combat vets who return from war-torn Iraq and the ways they are overcoming obstacles.

AARP’s Drivers Safety Class

Monday and Tuesday, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

AARP-trained instructors offer a two-day classroom defensive driver course for potential discounts in car insurance. To register, call Bob Fish at 363-0455.

Oneida Public Library will be closed Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24, to celebrate Thanksgiving. The library will be open as usual on Saturday, November 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

The Oneida Public Library Board of Trustees will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s History Room, 220 Broad St. The public is invited to attend. The History Room permits barrier-free access to the physically handicapped.
