The New York State Police in Herkimer are currently investigating a burglary that occurred Nov. 10, 2017, at approximately 2 p.m., at a residence on Mapleton Drive in the Town of Schuyler.

The investigation has revealed a male knocked at the door and identified himself to the elderly resident as working for the “town” and that he needed to check the water pressure for the sewer system.

When the homeowner let him in, he asked to go downstairs to the washing machine and requested the homeowner to run a wash cycle.  During this time, a second male enters the home and removes property from an upstairs bedroom. Investigators believe a tan-colored van may have been used by the suspects in this case. The initial male spoke broken English and may have been of Spanish descent.

If any anyone has information regarding this incident or may have seen anything suspicious in the area they are asked to contact Investigator Michael Benedetto, SP Herkimer BCI at (315) 866-7275.
