More than 34 years ago, Carol Neuveu and the late Harold Nye started a community outreach program. Nye, along with Carol Neuveu, a local salesperson with WMCR, inspired Nye employees and others in the community to brighten the holidays for families in need. This was the beginning of what eventually became Share a Caring Christmas. Today, this annual event has become a tradition that families and our local community look forward to each and every year. The event truly reflects the spirit of giving. Local residents, businesses and schools all collect new and gently used toys for area children who might not otherwise find much under their trees on Christmas morning.

In 2016 our local community had over 500 families that benefited from the efforts of this wonderful event. We also had over 30 local businesses that donated in some way to the event and the number of volunteers, sponsors and supporters was more than we can count.

Share the Warmth will continue again in 2017 and those wishing to donate can drop off winter jacket donations at any NYE Auto location. Big Frog and Lite 98.7 will be broadcasting live from the event that runs from 10 am to 1 pm at NYE’s Ford location.

A full line-up of musical entertainment has been scheduled, including musical selections performed by area schools and artist as well as long time supporter Fritz’s Polka Band and even a visit from Mrs. Claus and her Puppets. Light refreshments will be served. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for photos or for those little girls and boys that still need to give Santa their Christmas wish list.

All are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring any new or gently used unwrapped toy. Anyone interested in donating toys prior to the event may do so by bringing them to any NYE Auto location anytime during regular business hours now through December 20th. NYE Automotive is located at 1479 Genesee St. in Oneida and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. NYE VW is located at 5865Rome-Taberg Road in Rome and is open Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Any local group or organization who wish to help the effort by collecting toys are encouraged to do so, and anyone wishing to volunteer to help at the event should contact Terri Wimmer at 315.363.1000 x. 4256 or Kelly Karram at 315.725.8420.
