The Cazenovia Public Library will present two free screenings of Marshall on Friday, January 12 at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm in the Community Room. The 2017 film follows a young Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases.
Thurgood Marshall faces one of his greatest challenges as a lawyer for the NAACP when wealthy socialite Eleanor Strubing accuses black chauffeur Joseph Spell of sexual assault and attempted murder. Marshall travels to conservative Connecticut and teams up with Sam Friedman, a local Jewish lawyer who has never handled a criminal case. Together, the men work to build a defense while contending with racism and anti-Semitism.
The film is rated PG-13 and runs 118 minutes. Free popcorn provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library. All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, call (315) 655-9322 or visit www.cazenoviapubliclibrary.org
