The Open Afternoon Book Club will hold its next meeting in the Story Garden Room on Wednesday, January 17 at 1:00 pm. The group will discuss Graham Moore’s historical legal thriller, The Last Days of Night: A Novel (2016). Moore is the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Imitation Game and the New York Times bestselling author of The Sherlockian. His 2016 novel is based on the famous “War of the Currents,” fought between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse.

Fresh out of law school, Paul Cravath takes a case that seems impossible to win. His client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison for $1 billion over the invention of the light bulb and the right to power the country. Edison is a cunning and dangerous opponent with private spies, influence over the newspapers, and the backing of J.P. Morgan. Cravath takes great risks in his obsessive pursuit of victory.
