On Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, the Oneida City Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotics investigation on Madison Street in the city of Oneida.

The investigation was into the ongoing possession and sales of cocaine being investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. During this investigation, investigators located suspect Spring Benjamin, 29, of Madison Street, on James Street in possession of about $1,000 worth of cocaine.

She was taken into custody and charged by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on other charges. During a subsequent search of her residence, investigators found additional evidence of packaging and residue consistent with the possession, sales and use of cocaine and other drugs.

During her appearance in Oneida City Court Jan. 5, 2018, Oneida City police also charged Benjamin for the possession of the cocaine, including charges of:

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance third (B felony)
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance fourth (C felony)
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh (A misdemeanor)

She was already incarcerated on the charges levied by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, therefore she was arraigned on the new charges and was remanded back to the Madison County Jail.

On Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, the Oneida City Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint narcotics investigation on Phelps Street in the city of Oneida.

This investigation was also into possession and sales of cocaine. During the investigation, investigators witnessed the suspect, Kolongi ‘Cash’ Richardson, 36, of Syracuse, conduct a drug transaction. As investigators and officers approached the suspect to make an arrest, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and led the police on a pursuit through the city of Oneida. The suspect crashed his vehicle on Lake Road and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended by pursuing officers and investigators.

A quantity of cocaine and cash was seized. After being treated for minor injuries, the suspect was charged with the following charges:

  • Criminal sale of a controlled substance third (B felony)
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance third (B felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance seventh (A misdemeanor)
  • Resisting arrest (A misdemeanor)
  • Reckless driving (A misdemeanor)
  • 11 traffic-related infractions

Richardson was arraigned before the Oneida City Court and was remanded to Madison County Jail without bail. He will reappear before the Court on a later date and time.
