A Madison County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responded to a two car motor vehicle accident on Route 31 in the Town of Lenox.

While at the scene, one of the drivers, Hunter W. Brightman, 48, of 236 Genesee St., Chittenango, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, several glass methamphetamine pipes, a hypodermic needle and a quantity of marijuana.

Upon further investigation, information was obtained that Brightman may have also possessed  methamphetamine manufacturing material at two other separate locations. Search warrants were executed at 236 Genesee St., Apt. 3, Chittenango, and at 714 Fyler Road in Sullivan.

The Genesee Street search warrant yielded several containers containing methamphetamine, hypodermic needles, methamphetamine pipes and several prescription drugs.

When investigators searched the Fyler Road location, a methamphetamine lab was located in the garage. Upon discovery of the lab, the residence was secured and New York State CCSERT was contacted.  CCSERT responded and collected the methamphetamine from within the garage.

Brightman was charged with two counts of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the 3rd degree (class D felonies), five counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree (class A misdemeanors), unlawful possession of marijuana (violation), possession of a hypodermic instrument (class A misdemeanor) and several traffic violations.

Brightman was arraigned in Chittenango Village Court and was remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond; he is scheduled to re-appear at court at a later date.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Chittenango Village Police Department.
