Central New York Sportsman Show returns Feb. 3
The fourteenth annual Central New York Sportsman Show will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Kallet Civic Center, 159 Main Street in Oneida. The show will feature more than 45 outdoor businesses and clubs from the Central New York area.
Returning are the renowned mountain hunters – the Salerno brothers, and legendary trackers Jim Massett and Joe DiNitto. Popular New York State authors of topics ranging from hunting, fishing, cooking and hiking will be present for book signings. Wildlife artists will display work, including decoy artist Tom Van Valkenburg, and award winning artist Tom Lenweaver. A collection of mounts from area hunters will also be on display.
Throughout the day experts will give seminars and demonstrations on hunting, fishing, cooking, and other outdoor related topics. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney will speak on second amendment rights and advocating for Central NY sportsmen. A complete schedule can be found at holycrossacademy.com.
Children will be able to see an interactive reptile show with Dan the Snakeman, and the Utica Zoo will present live animals. Attendees will be able to see and touch animals throughout the day, and fish in the trout pond.
The public is invited to bring in any deer, caribou, elk, moose, and other big game to be measured by the NYS Big Buck Club. A prize will be awarded to the largest unscored NY State buck entry. There will be raffles for a fishing trip from Little “O” Charters, along with other outdoor items. Free door prizes will be announced throughout the day, and refreshments will be available.
The show’s Outdoor Wall of Fame will feature outdoor photos of local sportsmen at their proudest moments. The public is welcome to send in photos to maciag@bluefrog.com. A highlight of the event will be the announcement of the winner of the CNY Sportsman of the Year award at noon.
Admission is $6 and 12 years and under free. This year’s show is sponsored by Planet Fitness-Oneida, Tri Valley Family Practice, Vanderhoof Custom Cabinets, Child Health Associates, Michael J.
