On Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at approximately 2:41 p.m., the 911 center received a call of a possible domestic dispute where a single gunshot was heard coming from inside the residence.
Members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police responded to the scene and immediately formed a perimeter surrounding the residence. Initial information gathered from the scene determined that a male and female had engaged in a domestic dispute inside the residence. It was also reported that the male was armed with a long rifle.
Due to the circumstances, SWAT teams from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Syracuse Police Department along with the State Police Special Operations Response Team responded to the scene and formulated a plan to safely enter the residence.
Shortly after 6 p.m., SWAT teams entered the residence and located a deceased male later identified as Adam C. Atkinson, 43, and a deceased female, identified as Amy M. Sliwowski, 47. A preliminary investigation indicated that Atkinson shot and killed Sliwowski and then took his own life by shooting himself.
The Onondaga County Medical examiner’s Office have conducted autopsies.
The Sheriff’s office was also assisted by the Bridgeport Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, Minoa Ambulance, Chittenango Police Department and Canastota Police Department.
