Rome man charged with DWI following crash in Whitestown
State Police in Marcy arrested Jerry R. Morris, Jr., 31, of Rome, for driving while intoxicated, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and speeding.
On Feb. 19, 2018, at approximately 3:40 a.m., State Police observed a 2006 Toyota Highlander traveling 115 mph in a 65 mph zone on State Route 49 in Marcy.
Troopers then observed the vehicle lose control, strike a guide rail and drive down an embankment on River Street in the town of Whitestown, causing extensive guide rail damage.
Morris was found to be intoxicated. It was later discovered that he took the vehicle from a residence in Yorkville without the owner’s permission. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and speeding.
He was arraigned at the centralized arraignment in Oneida County and remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail.
