Chenango Bird Club sponsors ‘All About Bluebirds … and more!’ with Friends of Rogers

Join the Chenango Bird Club and Friends of Rogers for ‘All About Bluebirds…and more!’ beginning at 1 p.m. April 14. Presented by John Rogers, co-founder of the NYS Bluebird Society, this interactive presentation encompasses the life history of the Eastern Bluebird, other birds that nest in bluebird boxes, nest box management, and more. Sprinkled throughout the presentation are a variety of wildflowers, butterflies, other birds and quotes by renowned naturalists.

While the focus is primarily on bluebirds, Rogers shares his passion for the natural world in hopes the audience will take in some broader and deeper messages about nature – and life.

“We are grateful to the Chenango Bird Club for sponsoring this inspirational program,” said Simon Solomon, executive director. “With beautiful photographs, sounds, and a sincere, enthusiastic presentation style, anyone who appreciates nature will enjoy this offering.”

Rogers has maintained a trail of bluebird nest boxes in central NY for over four decades. He has  presented programs and workshops for hundreds of organizations in twelve states and two Canadian provinces.

Rogers co-founder of the New York State Bluebird Society in 1982. He has received numerous awards for his bluebird conservation work, including the John and Norah Lane Bluebird Conservation Award from the North American Bluebird Society. He is a past board member of that organization. In 2010, Rogers was a recipient of the Hero of Conservation Award from the Syracuse Post Standard. A retired mid-level banker, he holds a BA in Biology from SUNY Oswego.

‘All About Bluebirds…and more!’ will be held in the Visitor Center just off state Route 80 in Sherburne. While there is no charge, Friends of Rogers encourages contributions to support future operations. Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
