The art of Sally Tagliere to be featured in April

Reverse painting on glass is said to have originated in Asia, but local artist Sally Tagliere has perfected this art form.

During the month of April, Tagliere’s New York Waterfalls, Big Cats and Country Boy series will adorn the walls of the Lawson Community Room at the Canastota Public Library. An Artist’s Reception for the public will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 2.

“It takes time, sometimes even months to complete a reverse painting on glass,” Tagliere said. “I work in oils, and if I go back and try to paint over still-wet paint, everything smears.”

Tagliere usually has about a half-dozen paintings in process at one time.

“I paint in the manner in which I see it, so if the subject is facing left when I see it, it will be facing right when you look at it from the opposite side of the glass.”
