  • About the Trail Run: This August, nature lovers, sports enthusiasts, families, and their supporters will gather at the starting line at the third annual “Run for The Woods” at Baltimore Woods Nature Center to show their support for environmental education and stewardship in our community.

This family-friendly, healthy event features a challenging cross-country style 5K trail run that showcases our 182-acre preserve, introducing runners and their supporters to a place that over 20,000 people visit each year. Runners (and registered walkers, too!) will travel over hills and through valleys, along streams and ponds, and back through the meadow to the finish line. Kids 10 and under can join in the free 1K

Kids Fun Run in the meadow at 8:30am. The morning will include children’s activities and a post-race celebration with prizes from local businesses to the top runners by age category and Doug’s ice cream for everyone!

For many years, the Marcellus Rotary sponsored a “Run for The Woods”, drawing community  support for the nature preserve that has been a part of the Marcellus landscape for over 50 years.

Three years ago, Baltimore Woods re-introduced this annual tradition as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. This year, to celebrate its heritage and partnership with Marcellus Rotary, the 5K trail run has been re-titled “Run For The Woods.”

The race is sponsored by Doug’s Fish Fry of Skaneateles, Wegmans, the Central New York Community Foundation, and James P. Reagan Agency, Inc. All proceeds benefit Baltimore Woods Nature Center in its mission to provide environmental education and stewardship in the Central New York region.

Baltimore Woods still has sponsorships available; organizations interested in becoming a community partner of this event should contact the office at (315) 673-1350 for more information.
