Adventure out to the Great Swamp Conservancy of Canastota for non-scary Halloween Fun Days, Oct. 27 and 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is especially for children and adults during daylight hours, filled with entertaining fun. There are rooms filled with welcoming surprises and a “treat, not a trick” is awaiting all little monsters.

Follow the interactive paths to see what the Good Witch is brewing, Year of the Heron nest, Balloon Ghosts, Shark Tank, Scare Crow Convention, Creatures of the Night, Aliens Have Landed and much more.

The Swamp Snappers Camera Club will be taking photos (five-by-seven-inch) of individuals, families and pets in the spooky Old Farm House/office in Halloween costumes for a minimal charge.

Try your luck at the Halloween games and get creative with the creepy crafts. Food will be available at Lady Bug Café. Enter the coloring contest by picking up a flyer at the Canastota and Chittenango public libraries or downloading on our web site. Winners will be announced Sunday night. This family-oriented event benefits the GSC. Admission is $3 for children 16 and under and $1 for accompanying parents/adults.

Special this year, after the GSC Fun Days fundraiser Sunday, Oct. 28, the Mohawk Valley Strings will present “A Halloween Spooktacular.” This special 45-minute costume concert starts at 4 p.m. in the GSC museum; members consist of area youth who will perform a haunting experience through music.

The string orchestra is led by Liz Friedel and Allyson Sklar, with conductors Joan Batson and Hannah Roth. Bring the kids, wear costumes and join the strings group for a trunk-or-treat following the concert.

All are welcome to participate in the trunk-or-treat. Deck out the back of your cars, or trunk and pass out candy. This is a free concert, but donations are welcome to support the Mohawk Valley Strings.
