Public comment period on proposed recreational opportunities opens Nov. 15
DEC encourages public comment on proposed expanded recreational opportunities at Hinckley Reservoir Day Use Area, creates online survey, schedules Nov. 29 public meeting
The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced a Nov. 29 meeting to encourage comment from the public on proposed and significantly expanded recreational opportunities at the Hinckley Reservoir Day Use Area.
“The Hinckley Day Use area is a remarkable asset that provides opportunities for a wide range of outdoor recreation. The Unit Management Plan will govern how DEC will administer this area and its facilities on behalf of the public. We encourage everyone who is interested in the area to attend the scoping session and offer their ideas for how to realize the full potential of this wonderful site,” said Randall Young, Region 6 Acting Regional Director.
The Hinckley Reservoir Day Use Area is on the south shore of the 2,880-acre Hinckley Reservoir at 281 Stormy Hill Rd, Cold Brook, NY, and currently includes a beach, woods, trails, pavilion, spacious lawn, picnic area, and volleyball court. DEC is asking the public to share comments regarding additional recreational opportunities, including campsites, a playground, a bike trail system, and a trailered boat launch to create a full-scale DEC campground at this location.
Comments from the public will help determine final plans for expansion of recreational opportunities at Hinckley Reservoir Day Use Area. DEC encourages the public to attend a scoping session for Hinckley Reservoir Day Use Area on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Town of Trenton Public Meeting Room, 8520 Old Poland Road, Barneveld, NY 13304. In addition, the public can visit the Hinckley Reservoir Improvement Survey surveymonkey.com/r/RKRP9Y7 to share comments on recreational opportunities.
DEC is accepting comments for 30 days, beginning Nov. 15, and ending on Dec. 15, 2018. Public comments can be submitted by mail to Josh Houghton, NYS Bureau of Recreation, DEC, 625 Broadway, Albany, N.Y. 12233-5253, by email campinfo@dec.ny.gov or by phone to (518) 457-2500.
