Personal care items to be distributed to local shelters
Hosted by United Way of the Valley & Greater Utica Area’s Emerging Leaders United, UWVGUA collected personal care items from Oct. 11 through Nov. 8 to help improve the health, dignity and self-esteem of local individuals.
Items were dropped off by the public at Whisky Jack’s Salon For Men on Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford. The public was also encouraged to bring hygiene items to ELU’s ‘Channel Your Flannel’ event Nov. 8 at Lukin’s Brick Oven Pizza to be entered into a door prize.
Local companies also held internal campaigns with their employees. Participating companies included ACR Health; Assist 2 Sell; Crossfit Ascend; Dr. Lavalle, DDS; First Choice Staffing; Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce; Herkimer College; Hospice & Palliative Care; O’Brien, Gere & Associates; Reeves Dentistry; Riverside Dental; The Stanley Theater and Visions Hotels.
In total, 5,021 items were contributed worth over $5,300, with Visions Hotels bringing in 1,847 items alone. All items will be given to local shelters and pantries in Oneida and Herkimer counties.
