Madison County releases updated tentative budget for 2019

The Madison County Board of Supervisors today announced that the tax levy reflected in the 2019 Tentative Budget has decreased by $807,312, compared to the budget presented last week. The $122 million budget now keeps the 2019 tax levy increase at $137,740, or 0.365 percent.

This change results in a decrease in the tax rate on full value of $0.14 per thousand dollars of taxable value, as compared to the 2018 rates. Although there is an increase in the tax levy, the tax rates decreased because there was an overall increase in property values. The actual tax rates vary from one municipality to another, but the majority will have the benefit of decreased tax rates in 2019.

“We think this year’s budget is a good one,” said Madison County Chairman John Becker. “Everyone did not get everything that was on their wish list but they did get most of what they wanted. Most importantly we were able to give back to the taxpayers this year.”

The 2019 Madison County Budget will be voted on Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.
