Sherrill woman charged with welfare fraud

On Nov. 25, 2018, at 1:55 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Brandy M. Howlett, 33, of Sherrill, and charged her with fourth-degree welfare fraud (class E felony) and fourth-degree grand larceny (class E felony).

Between June 1, 2018, and Sept. 30, 2018, Howlett was collecting public assistance from the Madison County Department of Social Services. While doing so, she was required to report any earned income to Social Services. It is alleged that Howlett failed to report income that she received; as a result, she was given $1,376 in public assistance for which she was ineligible.

Howlett was issued appearance tickets directing her to appear in Lenox Town Court Jan. 8, 2019, at 9 a.m. to answer the charges.
