UPDATE: Man in surveillance photos turns self in

On Dec. 18, 2018, state police arrested Timothy R. Hamilton, 65, of Rome, for petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor; Hamilton turned himself into police after learning that the state police were attempting to identify him by surveillance photos from the Rome Walmart.

Hamilton was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court at a later date.

The New York State Police would like to remind everyone that according to New York State Consolidated Laws – Personal Property Article 7-B: section 252, any found property with a value of over $20 is to be returned to its owner, if known, or turned in to the police within 10 days. Failure to do so can result in fines, imprisonment or both. 


UPDATED: State police seek public assistance with identifying an individual in surveillance photos

State police in Lee are asking for the public’s help in identifying the male in the surveillance photos above.

On Dec.r 6, 2018, the male suspect was captured on security video taking $60 from the change dispenser of a self-checkout register at the Rome Wal-Mart.  The owner requested $60 with the cash back option and accidentally left it in the change dispenser. 

The male could be seen on surveillance video pocketing the money only seconds after the owner left the register area, and he did not make any attempt to locate or notify the owner.

If anyone can identify the male in the surveillance photos above, is asked to contact the New York State Police at 315.366.6000. All calls will be kept confidential.
