Clear Path for Veterans in Chittenango will host its annual Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day March 29, sponsored by SRC, Inc. of Syracuse.

The United States was involved in Vietnam from 1950 through 1975, deploying nearly 2.6 million military personnel to the war effort. There were 58,220 casualties in the Vietnam War and, according to the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Accounting Agency, 1,592 who fought during the war remain missing.

Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day is a day set aside at Clear Path to honor those who served and remember those who died.

Guest speaking at the event will be Grant Coates, National Sergeant-at-Arms Chair for the POW/MIA Committee. “The POW/MIA program seeks the fullest accounting of those still listed as POW/MIA in Southeast Asia and anywhere else, regardless of the conflict from which they went missing or were captured,” according to the organization’s website. Coates will discuss one of POW/MIA signature sponsorships: the Veterans Initiative where through the sharing of information Veteran-to-Veteran, America’s and Vietnam’s Veterans are able to develop new sources of information to help resolve the issue of American and Vietnamese MIA.

Lunch courtesy the culinary program at Clear Path will be served starting at 11 a.m.

Table displays or representatives from the Syracuse Vet Center, Veterans Affairs, county-level Veteran Services, Vietnam Veterans of America, POW, Syracuse Honor Flight and Easter Seals will also be present.
