Grant money could create 100 jobs locally
(Canastota, NY – Dec. 13, 2013) Village of Canastota Mayor, Carla DeShaw traveled to Albany Wednesday Dec. 11 in the hope of coming back to the village with funding to create jobs for village residents. She returned home with word that the Regional Economic Development Council had awarded three Canastota projects $2,080,000.
Ariston Daily Products, LLC was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,757,000 and will invest $6,511,302 to purchase, construct/renovate and equip an existing facility into a 72,000 square foot dairy products manufacturing facility. The property is the former DiMolding manufacturing building located on Main Street in the village. Ariston intends to manufacture Greek yogurt and feta cheese.
Oueensboro Farm Products Inc. is receiving an economic development grant of $293,000 as part of a $2 million upgrade to its Canastota production facility. The project will include upgrading production lines as well as renovating a portion of the facility to comply with new regulations for the supply of milk products for the production of Greek yogurt.
The Madison County Malting Project working with Cornell Cooperative Extension will receive $30,500 as part of a $61,000 project to investigate the feasibility of creating a full scale grain malting operation.
“These projects will continue our efforts to not only create jobs, but enhance the vitality of our community,” DeShaw said. “We are very fortunate that these businesses are willing to be part of our efforts to showcase our village.”
It is anticipated that these three projects will result in 100 jobs being added to the local economy.”
