COLGATE C-GATE(Cambridge, Mass. – Aug. 22, 2014) Colgate women’s soccer saw rookies Emily Crichlow andEliza Doll record their first career points in a tough 3-1 loss to Boston College on Friday night.

“We started off very well tonight and put together a decent first half,” head coach Kathy Brawn said. “Throughout the game we saw glimpses of how talented this group is, and from start to finish everyone stayed focused and determined.”

The Raiders took the early lead during the 13th minute of their season opener after Crichlow volleyed one into the back of the net for her first career marker. The play started after fellow classmate Doll sent a well-placed ball to the foot of Jenna Panepinto. The junior then helped it along to Crichlow for the Raiders’ first goal of the season.

BC equalized two minutes later, however, to knot the score at 1-all.

The Eagles placed two unanswered goals past sophomore goalkeeper Brenna Mason in the second half and were able to hold off any remaining Raider chances to ultimately secure the victory.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they face Providence on Sunday in the second game of their season-opening weekend.

“We are looking forward to getting back out on the field Sunday at Providence,” Brawn added.

Two minutes into the second half, BC found itself with a free kick 25 yards outside the box. On a kick that looked as though it would slide in under the crossbar, Mason reached up and pushed the hard-driven ball over the net.

With 36 minutes remaining in the game, Mason again came up huge with a breakaway save on BC’s Hayley Dowd to keep it a one-goal game at that time.
QUOTABLE
• Colgate freshman forward Crichlow when asked about playing in her first collegiate game: “I was pretty nervous for it. It’s a lot more pressure than club games but it is still the same game so you have to continue to take the right tactics into it. It was definitely very exciting.”

When asked about notching her first career goal: “I was excited. It was off a corner kick so I was marking the goalkeeper at the time. The ball was then kicked in my area and I was able to just get a foot on it and find the goal. It was one of the best feelings.”

When asked about what her expectations are for the year: “One of our goals is to win the Patriot League title this season. That would be amazing to accomplish but we are definitely just taking it one day at a time. I love the team and everyone is very supportive of each other so I think we can make it a long way.”
