The Canastota Canal Town Museum with the Canastota Public Library will offer another Canalside Talk at 7 p.m. March 27. Norman Dann will talk about his book, Peter Smith of Peterboro: Furs, Land and Anguish.”
Peter Smith was the father of abolitionist Gerrit Smith. Peter Smith was a successful businessman in New York who formed a partnership with John Jacob Astor in fur trading and also ran a land speculation operation.
Sadly, his life was plagued with mental health issues.
The book will be available for purchase an autograph at the session.
