On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 8:34 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3511 Graves Road in Stockbridge for a missing-persons complaint. It was reported that children were playing at a pond near the residence and two people were missing. One was a 12-year-old child and the other was a 21-year-old man.
Upon arrival, deputies were directed to the pond, which was about a quarter-mile away from the residence. The Munnsville Fire Department was already on the scene and actively looking for the missing people.
Information was obtained that two adults and two children were on a floating dock when the dock capsized, causing the two children and one of the adults to fall into the water; one of the children surfaced and was rescued, but the other child and the other adult never came out of the water.
Dive teams responded and searched the pond for the two missing people. At 10:05 p.m., divers located Feldy Miller, 12, of 3603 Barr Road, Oneida. At 10:15 p.m., divers located Rudy Miller, 21, also of 3603 Barr Road, Oneida. Both were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The other child was transported to the hospital for treatment. State police and fire departments from Canastota, Wampsville, Munnsville, Cazenovia and Eaton assisted at the scene.
