Willa Mihalyi-Koch of New Woodstock was named the recipient of The American Chemical Society Award, The Norton Prize and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship at Hamilton College’s Class & Charter Day, held May 13, 2019.

Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of College’s charter on May 26, 1812.

Mihalyi-Koch, a senior majoring in chemistry, is a graduate of Cazenovia Central High School.

The American Chemical Society Awards recognize achievement in chemistry. They are awarded to students demonstrating excellence in either organic or inorganic chemistry.

The Norton Prize is awarded to the undergraduate who has demonstrated the greatest capacity for research in chemistry.

The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship recognizes outstanding students with support for research-based graduate study leading to doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.
